Leslie Kornfeld
Leslie Kornfeld has been teaching riding for over 25 years. She received a BA degree in Education, and holds an IBA (Instructor of Beginner through Advanced) certification in Dressage through the ARICP (American Riding Instructor's Certification Program). She has experience in training and retraining horses and riders of all ages and levels, and has taught riding, horse care, equine anatomy, and stable management at both the college and youth group level. The majority of her work at this point is in giving riding lessons to adults interested in pursuing Dressage or low level Eventing.
Leslie has a particular interest in helping rider's to increase their body awareness and alignment to improve their riding (she is married to Alexander Technique teacher Adam Bailey). Several of her students have been very successful competitors but she believes that the most important thing is for the horse and rider to improve their communication, regardless of the rider's long and short-term goals. She is continually working with other instructors to improve her own technique and broaden her experience.
Lisa Petrillo Samoylenko
Lisa grew up riding, driving, falling off and caring for her father's ponies and horses. Her father boarded horses for short-term lay-up from the track and elsewhere, often taking on difficult or problem animals. Lisa was immersed in all facets of horse husbandry, breaking, re-schooling and showing, including showing saddle seat, western pleasure and learning to play polo. While interning at a local veterinary practice, she was introduced to Jane Dow at Westbrook Hunt Club, who gave her her first intensive instruction over fences.
Lisa was introduced to Eventing while at the University of Vermont, when she was asked to compete a horse for a friend. A stint as a groom took her to her first Three-Day Event at Radnor and she was hooked - eventing seemed the perfect mix of backyard bravado and disciplined riding. After graduating from college, Lisa moved to Boston and had limited involvement with horses, except for recreational polo and occasional jumping lessons.
In 1990, her now-husband Jay purchased Eleazer Davis Farm with the intention of restoring the house and developing the land. The opportunity was there and Lisa asked Jay to let the horses stay and give the horse business a try. In order to establish the farm they hired Terry Barrett (who previously managed, broke and trained the young stock at Groton House Farm) and set about making Eleazer Davis Farm a recognized Eventing and Dressage facility where the emphasis is to make Eventing and Dressage challenging and positive, regardless of the level.
Lisa has trained with Jane Dow, Stephanie Baer, Bruce Davidson, Joy Congdon-Fisher, and Martijn Stuurman and has participated in clinics with, Mike Plumb, Lucinda Green and Sharon McCusker, among others. In addition to her teaching schedule, Lisa is currently competing two young horses at Training level in preparation for Preliminary.
Susan Symmes
Susie grew up in Ohio where she got her introduction to riding at summer camp. While in high school and college she taught riding to children during the summers. The University of Vermont was where she was first exposed to dressage. She became a working student for Madeleine Austin, who was one of the first people to import Dutch Warmbloods to the U.S. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a BA in Sociology, Susie went back to Ohio and took courses in horse management at Lake Erie College.
Susie moved to New Hampshire in 1985 and started freelance teaching and training. She owned and trained her own horses, competing through FEI.
In 1996 Susie relocated to Bedford, Massachusetts to manage Eleazer Davis Farm. In addition to teaching and training at Davis, she is currently competing her own horse at Intermediate. Susie has trained with Volker Brommannn, Shelly Francis, Kathy Connelly, Martijn Stuurman, Sharon McCusker, Niels Hegstrep and Shannon Dueck.
